Year 5 Insect Boxes Written by Mr M Bland Created Thursday, 26th January 2012 19:06:45
Children in Y5 visited Ulverston Victoria High School to make Insect
boxes. The children had the opportunity to work in a workshop with
UVHS teacher Mr. Smith and Year 11 pupils. Once the children had
nailed their boxes together they had the chance to decorate their
boxes too. We hope now to attract lots of insects to our garden to
keep our local environment healthy. We would like to thank UVHS staff
for their support |

This week in school it is Art Week. Our whole school theme for the week
is Our Home Town and each class is looking at a different aspect of the
theme. We are very fortunate to have 2 artists in residence in school all
week, Adrian Newnham, a professional potter and Steve Wilson, a
professional weaver and feltmaker. Eventually our art work will be
displayed around school for all to see. This morning year 3 worked with
Mr Newnham. They made some excellent archways from Furness Abbey out of
clay. |

Indoor Football Tournament Written by Mr M Bland Created Friday, 25th November 2011 10:48:00
Yarlside faced strong opposition in this years 5-a-side indoor football
qualifying tournament. Yarlside battled hard in their opening game against
Dane Ghyll however it finished 0-0. In the next game a Nathan Andrews
strike gave Yarlside a deserved lead, however the boys got caught on the
break and North Walney forced the equaliser, the game finished 1-1. In the
third game against St. Columbas Yarlside went close, hitting the woodwork
twice, but couldn't find the winning goal, the game finished 0-0. Yarlside
needed a win against group leaders Roose in the final match to stand any
chance of qualifying. Yarlside took the game to Roose and goals from Ethan
Marwood, William McGladdery and Jordan Wilson gave Yarlside a deserved 3-0
win. The win and the goals took Yarlside through to the finals! Well done
Yarlside! |

Yarlside represent Barrow Schools Football at Cumbria County Cup! Written by Mr M Bland Created Monday, 21st November 2011 21:28:17
Yarlside travelled to Carlisle on Saturday 19th November to compete in this
seasons County Cup finals. Yarlside's first game against Belle Vue finished
in defeat after a controversial decision went against the boys and the
resulting free-kick went in off the post. In their second game, Yarlside
faced George Romney. Yarlside fought back from going behind twice, goals
from William McGladerry and Jordan Wilson secured a well deserved 2-2 draw.
In their third game Yarlside faced a defensive St. Bees. Unfortunately,
good play from Nathan Andrews and Ethan Marwood was unable to force a goal,
the game finished 0-0. In the final game against Seaton, Yarlside needed a
win and other results to go their way to earn a place in the semi finals. A
Jordan Wilson strike gifted the team their first win, however other results
went against Yarlside's interest. The boys played extremely well, against
the best schools from Cumbria, and did Yarlside proud. Well done! |

Yarlside played Roose in a Tag-Rugby Union Friendly match in preparation
for the competitions in the new year. Yarlside looked comfortable
throughout and their passing, movement and ability to run through Roose's
defensive line proved to much for the away team. Tries from Ethan, Jordan,
Jessica, Erin, Brandon, Tom, Oliver, Nathan and Joshua, and superb tackling in
particular from Jasmine, gave Yarlside a 19-7 victory. Well done Yarlside!

The boys attended the awards at the Town Hall and were awarded their
nomination certificate by Barrow's Mayor John Murphey. Yarlside faced
strong competition for the award and were unfortunate to just miss out.

Year 4 Dock Museum Written by Mrs K Blake Created Friday, 18th November 2011 15:28:16
Year 4 visited the Dock Museum to take part in a workshop about the
Romans. They had a wonderful time organising a timeline from the Ancient
Egyptians until the present day, made pictures using mosaic pieces, took
part in a quiz, played a Roman game, dressed up in a toga and made replica
Roman objects using clay. It was a huge amount to fit in 1½ hours but
they managed it and had a fantastic time. Thank you to all those parents
and grandparents who helped to transport the children to and from the Dock
Museum. We couldn’t do it without you. |
