Yarlside progress to semi finals of the 8-a-side cup! Written by Mr M Bland Created Tuesday, 22nd May 2012 09:47:15
Yarlside were drawn to play Chetwynde in this season's 8-a-side cup quarter final. Yarlside started positively and took the game to Chetwynde. After a closely contested first half, which saw both teams create chances, Ethan Marwood crossed for Jordan Wilson to fire Yarlside ahead. Chetwynde responded strongly in the second half, scoring on the counter attack after a Yarlside move broke down. Yarlside refused to give up and their commitment and determination saw them create a number of opportunities which were narrowly missed. Extra time could not split the teams and the game went down to penalties. Max Bickerdike made two fantastic saves and William McGladdery scored the only penalty of the shoot out. Yarlside won 1-0 on penalties to reach the semi finals!

Year 3 Little Beasties Written by Mrs B Stone Created Friday, 18th May 2012 19:25:30
On Thursday 17th May as part of our Jungle topic Mandy from Little Beasties in Ulverston came into school. She brought with her a variety of creatures that would live naturally in the tropical rainforests. It was an amazing experience and we all loved meeting and learning about the creatures. Mandy brought giant hissing cockroaches, a python, a water dragon lizard, a tarantula, a stick insect and other fascinating things. The children were all really brave and held each of the creatures. Even the teachers held them! Thank you to Mandy and all her little beastie friends we all learnt so much. |

Reception Trip to Lifeboat Station Written by Mrs K Turner Created Tuesday, 8th May 2012 11:26:35
In April the Reception children had a very enjoyable morning visiting Barrow Lifeboat Station. They went aboard the Grace Dixon and learnt how the boat is used to rescue people at sea. They also looked at the small rescue craft, investigated what the crew wear, and watched the video showing how the lifeboat is launched into the sea down the slipway. The children loved their visit, and can now tell an adult the number to call, and who to ask for if they see someone needing help at the seaside |

Yarlside faced fellow county finalists Holy Family in this season's Derek Morgan 7-a-side final. Nothing could split the teams in a closely contested first half. In the second half Yarlside were unlucky to find themselves go behind. However the boys responded extremely well and within minutes they were level after a good finish from Ethan Marwood. Yarlside then pushed on to try and find the winning goal and went close with a Nathan Andrew's free kick. Unfortunately, as Yarlside pressed, Holy Family made use of the space on the counter attack and scored what proved to be the winning goal. The team continued to work hard and lost out narrowly in an even game. Well done Yarlside

Yarlside through to the Football League Final! Written by Mr M Bland Created Tuesday, 1st May 2012 20:58:30
Yarlside beat Holy Family in an extremely even game to go through to this seasons Barrow Schools' Football League Final. After a tense opening to the game, William McGladdery came closest to opening the scoring however his header rebounded off the crossbar. Eventually, Yarlside found the opening.
A great pass from Nathan Andrews put Ethan Marwood through on goal....his shot was saved, however the ball was turned in off the last defender who had desperately slided in to try and close Ethan down. Holy Family refused to give up, and some great last ditch defending, in particular by William McGladdery, prevented the ball from going across the Yarlside goal line. Yarlside tested their luck at times however held their nerve to win the game 1-0. From the 20 schools who entered this years football league, Yarlside have made it to the final 2! Well done Yarlside!
